North Street Store (NSS) is a corner takeaway food store built for all-day, everyday use.
We started North Street 8 years ago with a simple mission: to shape a world where people eat better. We’re deeply passionate about food and hospitality, and we exist to share that passion with our local community through thoughtful food, genuine service, and consistency you can rely on.
We serve hot and cold food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at takeaway prices. The food is fresh, lovely, seasonal, and affordable. Everyone is here to serve the customer, and as Assistant Manager, you set the standard for what that looks like.
The Role
This is a hands-on leadership position. You will be on the floor, in the middle of it, every shift — on the coffee machine, behind the counter, in the kitchen, and in every customer interaction. This is not an office job. You lead by example and hold the team to a high standard.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves looking after customers, takes pride in turning a difficult moment into a great one, and understands that how a customer feels when they leave matters just as much as the food or coffee they received.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
People & Recruiting
- Supporting the hiring and onboarding of new team members
- Training and mentoring the team across coffee, food, service, and retail
- Holding yourself and others to a high standard — with respect and clarity
- Building a team culture that is positive, accountable, and drama-free
Operations
- Opening and closing shifts with full ownership
- Stock control, ordering, and supplier management
- Upholding standards across service, food, cleanliness, and coffee every shift
- Continuously working with the team to improve the store, our customer service/experience, and our training
Coffee & Food Quality
- Maintaining a consistent coffee standard and coaching others to do the same
- Keeping food preparation on-spec and to the quality our customers expect
Customer Experience
- Leading from the front — fast, warm, and genuine
- Handling complaints and difficult moments with confidence and good judgement
- Coaching the team to deliver the same standard of care consistently
Barista Skills — Beneficial but Not Essential
Coffee is central to what we do, so any experience on the machine is a real bonus. If you’re already comfortable dialling in, texturing milk, and working efficiently during busy service, great — but if not, we’re happy to develop the right person.

Salary Range $68,000 – $75,000
